After nine months in space, the capsule carrying astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore has safely landed in the ocean 50 miles off the coast of Florida, USA. However, being in space for a long time was a challenge.
A report published on Wednesday (March 19) said that they had to face various physical challenges due to their long stay on the International Space Station ISS. Experts said that staying in space for a long time can cause muscle and bone loss, kidney problems and vision problems. NASA kept a close eye on these issues and took special measures to monitor their health.
What Sunita and Butch ate in space
Many are curious about the diet of Sunita and Butch while in space. A New York Post report on November 18 last year said that the astronauts on the ISS ate foods such as pizza, roast chicken, shrimp cocktail, tuna fish, cereal, powdered milk, soup, stew and casserole.
The mission for Sunita and Butch’s return was known as ‘Crew-10’. This mission brought four new astronauts to the ISS and later included Sunita, Butch and two other astronauts – Nicholas Hague of the United States and Alexander Gorbunov of Russia – who returned to Earth. Both Sunita Williams (59) and Butch Wilmore (62) started their careers as test pilots for the US Navy and later joined NASA.
