Regarding the Army Chief’s speech at a special event at the Rawa Convention Hall in the capital on Tuesday regarding the Peelkhana massacre, Labor and Employment Advisor Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain said, “The Army Chief is a very high-level person for me. He is running an army. He did not say anything without understanding it.” The advisor made the comments in response to a question from journalists at a press conference of the Advisory Council Committee on Reviewing Labor and Business Conditions of Industrial Establishments in Beximco Industrial Park at the Secretariat on Thursday (February 27).

He said, “As far as I know the Army Chief, he is a very straight forward man. He is the kind of person who says what he wants to say to people’s faces. So I have a lot of respect for him.” The advisor said, “I cannot explain what he said or did not say. Only he can explain that.” In response to a question about whether he understands the way he addressed the chief advisor, he said, “You ask him that.”

Incidentally, Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman said in a recent speech, “If you cannot forget your differences and work together, if you throw mud at each other, if you fight and quarrel. Then the independence and sovereignty of this country and nation will be in danger. My only desire is to return to the cantonment, leaving the country and nation in a beautiful place.”
