Bengali calculator 'Dharapat'

All the calculators I have seen so far had numbers in English. But Dr. Mahmud Hasan has created a new and innovative calculator. A red button on a green body. 1, 2, 3, 4, Jama, Saf and Thok written in Bengali on the red button. This calculator made with Bengali numbers is called ‘Dharapat’. He has also invented a similar digital watch ‘Dharakram’.

The first Bengali calculator, Dharapat, is designed with the red and green colors of the national flag of Bangladesh. He sat with a stall at the book fair. The stall itself read ‘Dharapat, the first Bengali calculator.’

Dr. Mahmud Hasan studied applied physics at Dhaka University. He taught in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Dhaka University from 1985 to 1995. In 1995, Dr. Mahmud went to Malaysia to do his PhD on robotics. He never returned to the country. He has taught at universities around the world for 30 years. He has taught robotics at many colleges and universities in Malaysia, Brunei, Kazakhstan, and America. The Bengali numbers from 0 to 9 could be displayed with 12 segments. This calculator can also display English numbers. However, this is a secret feature. Although Dr. Mahmud Hasan does not want this feature to be used much. After 36 years, in 2025, he created the Bengali calculator ‘Dharapat’ on his own initiative.
