The historical film ‘Chhava’, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, was released. No one could have imagined before the release that it would break the box office record of Hindi cinema, and the film starring Vicky Kaushal and Akshaye Khanna made this impossible possible.
According to a report by trade website SackNilk, ‘Chhava’ is not only the highest-grossing film of the year so far, but has also surpassed Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathan’ and Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’! The film earned Rs 8 crore on its fifth Sunday. Of which, it earned Rs 7.25 crore in Hindi and Rs 0.75 crore in Telugu. In total, the film’s total earnings in 31 days stood at Rs 562.65 crore (Hindi: Rs 548.7 crore and Telugu: Rs 13.95 crore).
At this point, Chhava has surpassed Pathan and Animal to reach the top. ‘Chabha’ is a Marathi word, which means lion cub. The main story of the film is about how Aurangzeb, after imprisoning Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Maratha nationalist Chhatrapati Maharaj Shivaji, gradually pushed him to death by indescribable torture.
