The Australian visa center is being set up in Dhaka by the end of this March, said Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry, Nasimul Ghani. The Senior Secretary informed reporters after the signing ceremony of the Standard Operating Procedure for the Return of Bangladeshi Citizens to Bangladesh between the governments of Bangladesh and Australia on Monday (March 24).
Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Australian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Ms. Susan Ryle, were present as the chief guests at the ceremony. The agreement was signed by IGP Baharul Alam on behalf of Bangladesh and by Mark Whitechurch, Deputy Commander of the Australian Joint Agency Task Force, on behalf of Australia.
The Home Secretary said that the Australian visa center was outside Bangladesh. The Australian visa process for Bangladeshis was being done from New Delhi until now. They will start operations in Dhaka from the end of this month. It may be launched soon after Eid.
