Police have recovered the body of a young man named Abdul Mukit (35) from a flat in Bishwanath, Sylhet. The body was recovered from a flat on Rampasha Road in Bishwanath Municipality at around 4:30 am today (March 23). The body was found hanging from a mosquito net stand. The young man is the son of Abdus Shahid of Mirerchar village in the upazila.
Although the police initially considered it a suicide, the relatives of the deceased claim that it was a murder. The relatives say that there are injury marks on the stomach and legs. In addition, one leg was tied to a mosquito net stand with a rope. The police said that based on the information given by the relatives, the body was recovered from the flat on Rampasha Road at around 4:30 am today, Sunday.
Abdul Mukit used to work at a supermarket in Bishwanath Municipality. His expatriate sister has a flat on Rampasha Road. There was no tenant there. He used to look after it.
When he did not return home on Saturday (March 22) night, his family members started searching for him. During the pre-dawn meal, they found out through the security guard that the lights were on in the flat. Later, the family members went there and found the door locked from the inside. However, the glass of the window next to the door was open and they reached through the window and reached the door latch. They opened the door and saw Mukit’s dead body hanging from the mosquito net stand in a room. The relatives of the deceased alleged that it was a murder. Mukit’s phone number was not found with him when the body was recovered. The key to the flat was also not found. In addition, there were injury marks on the body and both legs were stuck to the bed up to the knees.
It is learnt that a murder case will be filed by the family of the deceased. In this regard, Bishwanath Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Enamul Haque Chowdhury said that it could be a suicide. However, an autopsy will be conducted on the body and the police are investigating the incident. If the family files a case, further legal action will be taken.
