Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said that drivers of government vehicles in Dhaka are violating traffic laws. This is encouraging many to break traffic laws in Dhaka. The DMP also commented that this is creating a bad precedent for everyone. This information was given in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali on Wednesday night.
The notice said that the DMP’s traffic department is working tirelessly to keep traffic in Dhaka normal. It is often observed that drivers of government vehicles are violating traffic laws (disobeying signals, driving on the wrong side of the road, parking in random places, etc.). This is creating a bad precedent and drivers of other vehicles are getting encouraged to break such traffic laws. As a result, the challenge of restoring traffic discipline in Dhaka metropolis is increasing. Moreover, in many cases, drivers of government vehicles misbehave with traffic police members while traffic members are enforcing the law, resulting in criminal action being taken in many cases.
In this situation, all government vehicle drivers are specifically requested to obey the traffic law properly to restore traffic discipline in Dhaka Metropolitan City. Otherwise, Dhaka Metropolitan Police will strengthen legal action against government vehicles/drivers violating the Road Transport Act, 2018. Also, Dhaka Metropolitan Police is seeking cooperation from officials of all government agencies and vehicle drivers in this regard.
