The name of the tomb of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman, located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, has been restored. The decision was announced in a notification issued recently by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. The notification, signed by Naila Ahmed, Joint Secretary of the ministry, said that as per the decision of Article 12.3 of the meeting of the Advisory Council of the Cabinet Division, the changed name of the ‘Chandrima Udyan’ located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka has been restored to ‘Zia Udyan’.
Earlier, after the Awami League government came to power in 1996, the name of ‘Zia Udyan’ was changed to ‘Chandrima Udyan’. However, as per the decision taken in the meeting of the Advisory Council of the interim government, the previous name ‘Zia Udyan’ has been restored.
Zia Udyan, one of the most visited places in the capital, is spread over 74 acres of land next to the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. A shrine complex has been built around the tomb of martyred President Ziaur Rahman located here. Every day, numerous visitors come here with their families to travel and pay their respects.
